In recognition of Earth Day, InterContinental Maldives Maamunagau Resort is hosting a series of curated activities on 22 April 2026, encouraging guests to reconnect with nature through immersive island experiences.
Located in the scenic surroundings of Raa Atoll, the resort’s Earth Day programme underscores its continued focus on environmental responsibility, offering opportunities for visitors to interact meaningfully with the island’s marine and terrestrial ecosystems.
Throughout the day, guests can take part in a range of experiences aimed at fostering awareness and engagement. A guided snorkelling session led by the resort’s Marine Biologist provides insight into coral restoration efforts within the Maamunagau Lagoon, highlighting reef rehabilitation and the marine species it sustains.
A coral workshop, together with a manta ray session conducted by the Manta Trust team, places further emphasis on marine conservation in the Maldives, sharing expertise on safeguarding these species and their habitats.
Onshore, participants are offered a behind-the-scenes sustainability tour that presents operational practices supporting island life, including renewable energy use and waste management initiatives. Younger visitors are also included through an interactive visit to the resort’s bottling plant, promoting environmentally responsible habits from an early stage.
Wellbeing is incorporated into the programme with a digital detox experience at AVI Spa, designed to encourage guests to step away from screens and focus on the present. This is complemented by a plant-based breakfast and a zero-waste cooking class, both demonstrating practical approaches to sustainable living.
As part of the day’s activities, guests can contribute to a tree planting initiative in the resort’s greenhouse, supporting the growth of native plants and long-term biodiversity.
The programme concludes with an informal beachfront evening, featuring a curated BBQ dining experience, live music, and a traditional Maldivian Bodu Beru performance, bringing together elements of culture and community.
Through a combination of conservation, education, and wellbeing initiatives, InterContinental Maldives continues to promote responsible luxury, with experiences designed to consider both environmental and social impact.
