Visit Maldives Corporation signs participation agreement following Second Annual Planning Meeting in Belgrade

Visit Maldives Corporation (VMC) has formally confirmed its participation in Belgrade Expo 2027 after the successful completion of the Second Annual Planning Meeting held in Belgrade. The participation agreement was signed by CEO and Managing Director Mr. Ibrahim Shiuree, reaffirming the Maldives’ commitment to taking part in the major international event.

With the agreement now in place, preparations will move from the initial planning stage into the next phase of development for the Expo. Following earlier discussions held during international planning sessions, VMC will begin work on shaping the Maldives’ national presence, highlighting the country’s leadership in tourism, its environmental stewardship, and its cultural identity.

Belgrade Expo 2027 will be held in Belgrade from 15 May to 15 August 2027 under the theme “Play for Humanity: Sport and Music for All.” More than 120 countries are expected to participate, and the event is projected to attract over four million visitors, positioning it among the largest international gatherings scheduled for the region.

For the Maldives, participation in the Expo offers an opportunity to connect with new audiences across the Balkan region and broader European markets. The event will also provide a platform to present the country’s sustainable tourism approach and its focus on ocean stewardship. In addition, the Maldives will take part in cultural exchange and dialogue aligned with the Expo’s central themes, including Play for Progress, Play Together, and the Power of Play.

Commenting on the preparations, Ibrahim Shiuree, CEO and Managing Director of Visit Maldives Corporation, said coordination efforts are underway across several institutions. “Visit Maldives has been working closely with relevant ministries and national authorities to ensure a strong and coordinated presence at Belgrade Expo 2027. This collaboration allows us to present the Maldives in a unified manner, bringing together tourism, culture, sustainability, and national identity on an international stage.”

Visit Maldives Corporation will continue its collaboration with the Belgrade Expo 2027 organising committee as well as national stakeholders to develop the Maldives’ pavilion concept and its programme. The country’s participation is expected to strengthen engagement with European markets while showcasing the Maldives’ tourism sector, culture, and environmental initiatives to a global audience.
