Sun Siyam Olhuveli Maldives has welcomed Myles Murphy as its newly appointed Marine Biologist, reinforcing the resort’s ongoing commitment to environmental sustainability and marine conservation. Hailing from the United Kingdom, Murphy earned his degree in Marine Biology from the University of Newcastle in 2021 and has since built a strong foundation in ocean conservation, working across both temperate and tropical marine environments.
Most recently, he completed a conservation internship with the Indo Ocean Project in Indonesia, where he specialized in coral restoration, reef health assessments, and marine ecosystem surveys. This hands-on experience has further refined his expertise in preserving delicate underwater habitats.
In his new role at Sun Siyam Olhuveli, Murphy will lead projects focused on protecting and rejuvenating the surrounding marine environment. His responsibilities include conducting ecological research, working closely with NGOs and governmental bodies, and managing a variety of marine surveys. As a certified Coral Gardener, he will expand on current coral propagation initiatives, playing a key role in the resort’s reef restoration programs and long-term sustainability goals.
Murphy also brings a strong passion for public education and engagement. With a background in citizen science, he plans to create immersive guest experiences that encourage direct participation in conservation activities. By integrating scientific knowledge with interactive learning, he hopes to inspire environmental awareness among both visitors and the broader community.
His academic and field experience—particularly in geospatial analysis and studying human-induced impacts on marine ecosystems—aligns closely with the sustainability objectives of Sun Siyam Olhuveli. The resort views his appointment as a significant enhancement to its environmental programs.
“We are delighted to welcome Myles to the Sun Siyam family. His expertise and passion for marine conservation will further elevate our environmental programs, ensuring that our marine ecosystems continue to thrive,” said Koen Zuurbier, General Manager at Sun Diving.
