A delegation from Liverpool Football Club has arrived in the Maldives as part of the growing strategic partnership between Visit Maldives and the English football giant. The team, led by David Paul, Vice President of Partnerships, and Alex Fraser, Director of Global Partnership Development, will take part in a series of top-level engagements throughout their visit.

The purpose of the trip is to solidify the partnership through discussions with Maldivian government officials, tourism authorities, and industry leaders. These conversations will focus on enhancing collaboration, exploring innovative tourism strategies, and pushing forward several joint promotional initiatives.

This official visit comes after Visit Maldives became the Official Destination Partner of Liverpool FC earlier this year—a milestone agreement launched during the club’s mid-season. The partnership brings global attention to the Maldives by leveraging Liverpool FC’s massive fanbase and international reach, positioning the country prominently on one of the world’s biggest sports stages.

Highlighting the Maldives' broader move into sports tourism, this initiative aims to attract travelers who merge their love of football with premium travel. A campaign roll-out tied to the upcoming 2025/26 football season, set to begin in August, includes global media content featuring Liverpool FC players and targets high-value travel markets including the UK, Germany, the Middle East, and Asia.

Promotional efforts already underway have featured the Maldives across premium advertising platforms such as black cabs in London, airport lounges across Europe, the London Underground, and taxis throughout the UAE. Further visibility has been achieved through co-branded promotions at major travel events like the Arabian Travel Market and Kazakhstan International Travel Fair, along with LED displays at Anfield Stadium, reaching an estimated 200 million viewers.

This high-profile collaboration underlines a shared ambition to elevate the Maldives’ status as a premier travel destination while supporting the country’s 2025 tourism goals. Visit Maldives is committed to ensuring long-term growth in the tourism sector by tapping into new and engaged international audiences through its association with Liverpool FC.
