On May 1, in observance of International Labor Day, the leadership team at Sun Siyam Olhuveli moved beyond traditional oversight and engaged directly with the resort’s daily operations through a deliberate Gemba Walk. This initiative was designed to gain a deeper appreciation for the staff who create guest experiences.
Rather than staying in administrative roles, the leaders fully committed to hands-on work across various departments. Human Resources Director Ahmed Shazeen served as a barman, interacting with visitors and feeling the demands of front-of-house duties. Operations Manager Ibrahim Baasith worked as a pastry chef, collaborating with the kitchen staff to learn about the accuracy and inventiveness required in food preparation. General Manager Hassan Adil and Director of Operations Mohamed Ali both took on the role of Chef de Partie, joining the cooking team to experience the pace and coordination essential to the resort’s culinary standards. Elsewhere on the island, other managers participated in housekeeping rounds, security checks, watersports instruction, food preparation, and engineering maintenance, fully integrating into the resort’s daily workflow.
The event encouraged open dialogue and sincere interest. Leaders spoke directly with employees, posing straightforward and meaningful questions about the difficulties they encounter, what changes might simplify their workday, and how situations are handled when plans go wrong. These discussions produced useful perspectives, giving management a clearer view of on-the-ground realities while deepening mutual trust among the workforce.
“This was not about checking processes, but about listening, learning, and showing respect to the people who bring our resort to life every day,” shared Hassan Adil, General Manager at Sun Siyam Olhuveli. “International Labor Day reminds us that our greatest strength lies in our people, and this experience allowed us to walk alongside them. Today is a reminder that leadership is not just about direction, but about being present.”
The observance further underscored the resort’s ongoing dedication to a people-first philosophy, where professional development is fostered through empathy and collective mission. Whether speaking with veteran staff members or those new to the team, every interaction reinforced a core principle — exceptional hospitality stems from authentic human connections.
As part of the Lifestyle Collection under the House of Siyam, Sun Siyam Olhuveli continues to prioritize its employees as the heart of its narrative. Such initiatives extend beyond a single day, helping to build a culture where every person feels recognized, supported, and motivated to advance — creating a work environment as rewarding as the memorable stays offered to guests.
