Sun Siyam Olhuveli has marked a significant moment of recognition as Abdulla Ibrahim was named Landscaper of the Year at the recently concluded Hotelier Maldives Awards 2026. Having been part of the resort for close to three decades, the recognition reflects a long-standing contribution now formally acknowledged.
The award was presented during the gala evening held on 26 April 2026, celebrating individuals who contribute to shaping the hospitality landscape across the Maldives.
Abdulla’s daily routine begins before the island fully awakens, working through the gardens in the early morning hours. For him, landscaping extends beyond a professional role, representing a personal journey that began in 1995 and developed alongside the growth of Sun Siyam Resorts. His early career started at sea as a Dhoni captain before transitioning to land, where his affinity with nature became central to a career defined by consistency, attention, and dedication.
Throughout the years, Abdulla has contributed to shaping the environment at Sun Siyam Olhuveli into a setting that appears natural while being carefully maintained. Shaded walkways, thriving native vegetation, and seasonal changes in the gardens collectively create a balanced landscape. His approach also incorporates sustainable practices, including the use of beach washed seagrass as a natural fertiliser, supporting soil enrichment while reducing waste. Guest areas, from beachfront locations to cultural spaces, are maintained to reflect a welcoming and considered environment. His commitment also extends beyond the resort through participation in tree planting initiatives.

Speaking on the recognition, Abdulla Ibrahim shared: "This island has been part of my life for many years, and I care for it as I would my own home. Every tree we plant and every space we shape is for the people who walk through it. To be recognised in this way means a lot, not just for me, but for everyone in my team who works alongside me every day."
"Hassan Adil, General Manager at Sun Siyam Olhuveli added, "Abdulla’s journey is a true reflection of what we stand for. His dedication, humility, and deep understanding of the island have shaped experiences that our guests feel the moment they arrive. This recognition is not only about beautiful landscapes, but about the heart behind them. We are incredibly proud to see his story celebrated,"
At Sun Siyam Olhuveli, where a lifestyle-led approach defines how the resort is experienced, moments of recognition extend beyond individual achievement. They reflect a workplace culture that prioritises people, supports development, and encourages growth. Each individual journey is recognised as a contributing element to the broader guest experience.
As the resort continues its development, it maintains a focus on a core principle that exceptional experiences are driven by people. By investing in talent, supporting progression, and acknowledging commitment, Sun Siyam Olhuveli continues to shape its future through the individuals who contribute to its operations.
