Marking Earth Day, Sun Siyam Olhuveli, part of the Lifestyle Collection within the House of Siyam, introduced its latest marine-focused initiative, the Adopt A Coral Frame experience, during a morning launch on 22 April at Milano Beach on Dream Island. Built around conservation and guest engagement, the programme reflects the resort’s continued efforts to safeguard its surrounding marine environment while creating opportunities for meaningful interaction.

Set against a tranquil turquoise seascape, attendees gathered for a hands-on introduction to coral restoration. The experience is designed to bring visitors closer to the marine environment through direct participation. The Adopt A Coral Frame programme allows guests to contribute to new coral growth by attaching fragments onto specially designed frames they select, which are later positioned within the lagoon to develop into a new reef.

The initiative begins with the careful selection of healthy coral fragments under the supervision of the resort’s marine biologist. These fragments are then fixed onto coral frames and placed in designated areas within the resort’s coral garden, where environmental conditions support growth and biodiversity. Participants are invited to adopt their selected frame, engage in the planting process, and receive progress updates, including photographs shared every six months.

Coral reefs serve a critical function within marine ecosystems, supporting diverse marine species, protecting coastlines, and maintaining ecological balance underwater. Through this programme, the resort presents these benefits in a format that is both accessible and engaging for participants.

“Earth Day is a reminder that even the smallest actions can shape something far greater,” said Chaminda Upul, Group Sustainability Manager for Sun Siyam. “With Adopt-A-Coral Frame, we wanted to create an experience where our guests can leave a positive mark on the ocean. It’s simple, it’s meaningful, and it stays with you.”

Hassan Adil, General Manager of Sun Siyam Olhuveli, added, “At Olhuveli, we believe the best experiences are the ones that stay with you long after you leave. Adopt-A-Coral is our way of inviting guests to be part of something lasting, while caring for the natural beauty that makes this place so special.”

A portion of proceeds from each coral adoption contributes to Sun Siyam Care, the group’s sustainability platform, directly supporting ongoing marine conservation initiatives and long-term reef restoration.

Combining environmental purpose with guest experience, the launch highlights Sun Siyam Olhuveli’s approach to contemporary island living, where exploration, connection, and environmental responsibility align.
