Siyam World Maldives progresses solar rollout under Sun Siyam renewable strategy

First phase delivers 300 kW as part of a planned 2.7 MW system

Siyam World Maldives, part of Sun Siyam Resorts’ Lifestyle Collection, has marked a significant step in its sustainability efforts with the activation of the first phase of its solar photovoltaic (PV) system. The installation is currently producing 300 kW of renewable energy and forms part of a broader on-island initiative expected to reach a total capacity of 2.7 MW.

The development is aligned with Sun Siyam’s wider renewable energy objectives under the Sun Siyam Care sustainability framework, which is designed to reduce dependence on diesel-powered systems across its properties.

With the system now partly operational, the resort is generating approximately 1,080 kWh of clean electricity each day. This output is helping to cut diesel usage by an estimated 280 litres daily while contributing to a reduction in overall carbon emissions.

“This is the kind of progress we are proud to see at Siyam World, practical, forward-looking, and genuinely impactful for the island. Our team has worked hard to bring this project to life, and it is exciting to see solar energy playing a growing role in powering our operations”, said Ausy Waseem, Resort Manager at Siyam World. “For us, sustainability must go beyond a statement. It needs to translate into meaningful action that delivers real environmental value while strengthening the long-term resilience of the business. This approach is very much aligned with the vision of our founder, Ahmed Siyam Mohamed.”

The solar initiative supports several core aspects of the Sun Siyam Care programme, including the shift towards renewable energy, enhanced resource efficiency, and the strengthening of local technical expertise. Across the group, these efforts are projected to produce close to six million kWh of renewable energy annually, alongside training engineering teams in solar system operation and maintenance.

Siyam World has already implemented a number of sustainability measures. In 2025, the resort introduced its Plastic Upcycling Center, which converts plastic waste into durable logs used in the production of furniture and other practical items. The initiative aims to reduce landfill waste while repurposing materials. With solar energy now contributing to operations and further phases in progress, Siyam World continues to show how sustainability-focused innovation can coexist with dynamic island hospitality experiences.
