Visit Maldives Corporation has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with DERTOUR Deutschland, one of Europe’s largest tour operators, in a move designed to substantially increase visitor arrivals from Germany and reinforce the Maldives’ footprint within the European travel sector.
The agreement was formalised on 10 February 2026 in Berlin during the official visit of Dr. Mohamed Muizzu. Ibrahim Shiuree, Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of Visit Maldives Corporation, signed on behalf of the organisation, while Jörn Krausser, Director – Indian Ocean & Asia, represented DERTOUR Deutschland.
Under the strategic partnership, the two parties will work together on destination marketing efforts aimed at generating at least 100,000 German tourist arrivals, with a joint objective of surpassing 200,000 German visitors in the subsequent year. The initiative further consolidates Germany’s standing as one of the Maldives’ most significant European source markets.
Planned collaboration will include coordinated promotional campaigns, engagement programmes with the travel trade, and focused marketing initiatives tailored to German consumer preferences, seasonal travel trends, and relevant distribution channels.
As part of the arrangement, DERTOUR Deutschland will contribute market knowledge and strategic guidance to assist in developing data-driven destination marketing approaches for the Maldives. Both sides will also share pertinent tourism statistics, market intelligence, and performance data, in accordance with applicable confidentiality and data-sharing regulations.
The MoU also provides for joint participation in mutually agreed trade fairs, sales activities, and promotional events organised by either party. These efforts are intended to enhance interaction with the German travel trade and support measurable growth in visitor arrivals.
The partnership acknowledges DERTOUR Deutschland’s long-standing presence in the Maldives through its portfolio of brands and resort investments, including ANANEA Resorts, underscoring the group’s sustained commitment and confidence in the destination as a leading tourism market.
