InterContinental Maldives Maamunagau Resort has appointed Ali Niyaz as Executive Housekeeper, recognising his dedicated career progression within the property.
Niyaz joined the resort in 2021 as a Villa Attendant/Coordinator, bringing prior experience from other Maldivian resorts. Demonstrating dedication, discipline, and a strong willingness to learn, he advanced through roles as Housekeeping Supervisor, Assistant Executive Housekeeper, and Housekeeping Manager before taking on his current position in 2026.
In his new role, Niyaz leads one of the resort’s largest operational teams, overseeing housekeeping and laundry services while upholding the luxury standards of the international brand.
Reflecting on his journey, Ali Niyaz stated: “When I joined the resort, I never imagined how far this journey would take me. Every role taught me something new, and every challenge helped shape who I am today. I am grateful to the leaders and colleagues who believed in me and supported my growth. I hope my journey encourages young Maldivians to believe that with commitment and consistency, opportunities will come.”
The appointment underscores the resort’s commitment to long-term career development, mentorship, and providing meaningful opportunities for local colleagues in a global hospitality setting.
Mohamed Hussain Shihab, Area Director of Human Resources, commented: “Niyaz’s journey is a powerful example of what can be achieved when dedication is met with opportunity. At InterContinental Maldives, we are proud to support the growth of all our colleagues by providing clear pathways for development, learning, and leadership. His story reflects the values we strive to uphold across the resort and within IHG.”
Niyaz’s progression serves as an inspiration for aspiring Maldivian hoteliers, showing that global brands can recognise, nurture, and elevate local talent into leadership positions.
