The Baa Atoll Council, in partnership with Visit Maldives Corporation (VMC), will host the Baani Event on October 18, 2025, marking an ambitious attempt to set a Guinness World Record for the largest simultaneous snorkeling event. Approximately 1,000 participants are expected to gather at Villingilifaru Finolhu, a pristine sandbank in Baa Atoll celebrated for its turquoise lagoon, vibrant reefs, and abundant marine biodiversity.
Located just ten minutes from Eydhafushi, Villingilifaru Finolhu offers a spectacular natural setting for the record attempt. Its western lagoon and coral-rich outer reef are home to diverse marine life, while the island’s shores provide a nesting ground for hundreds of Black-naped Terns, creating a rare and enchanting environment for visitors.
The Baani Event aims to go beyond breaking a world record by celebrating the Maldives’ remarkable marine ecosystems and encouraging responsible tourism. By bringing participants together in a shared experience, the initiative emphasizes the importance of protecting delicate habitats while honoring the communities and individuals who sustain the country’s tourism sector.
Registration for the event is now open, inviting both participants and spectators to witness this unprecedented gathering. Attendees will have the opportunity to explore one of Baa Atoll’s hidden gems while experiencing a remarkable display of coordination, community engagement, and environmental awareness.
