Maldivian, the national airline of the Maldives, has achieved a significant milestone with the launch of its first wide-body aircraft, the Airbus A330-200. This development marks a new chapter in the airline’s history, allowing it to expand its international operations and cater to growing demand from key markets such as China.
The airline’s Airbus A330-200 features a three-class configuration, with seating for 18 Business Class passengers, 36 Premium Economy passengers, and 210 Economy Class passengers. The new aircraft provides enhanced passenger comfort and increased cargo capacity, enabling Maldivian to meet the needs of both leisure and business travellers.
Maldivian has announced direct flights to three major Chinese cities: Chengdu, Beijing, and Shanghai.
Details of the schedules and promotional fares are as follows:
- Chengdu inaugural flight is to take place on 22nd of January 22, 2025 with a return fare of USD 688 (MVR 10,610). The travel period for this promotional fare is until the end of January 2025.
- Beijing inaugural flight takes place on 24th January, 2025 with a return fare of USD 788 (MVR 12,151) per passenger. Travel period for this promotional fare is open until 1st of February 2025.
- Shanghai inaugural flight will take place on January 27, 2025 with a Return fare of USD 777 (MVR 11,981) per traveller. Travel period for this promotional fare is January 27–February 4, 2025
The launch of the Airbus A330-200 is strategically timed to coincide with the resurgence of international tourism. As one of the Maldives’ largest source markets, China’s tourists play a pivotal role in the nation’s economy. Direct flights to three key Chinese cities are expected to provide a seamless travel experience, making the Maldives even more accessible to Chinese travellers.
