Ooredoo Fintech and PayPal have announced plans to collaborate in the Maldives, marking a major step forward in the country’s digital transformation. The two companies are currently finalizing the details of the partnership, which aims to provide new opportunities for both consumers and businesses.

Set to launch in 2026, the collaboration will allow Maldivian users to connect their PayPal and m-Faisaa accounts, making it possible to transfer funds between the two platforms. This integration will also enable consumers in the Maldives to shop with PayPal merchants worldwide, expanding access to international online marketplaces. At the same time, local businesses will gain the ability to reach global customers and sell their products overseas, advancing the Maldives toward its goal of becoming a fully digital economy.

“As the Maldives accelerates its digital transformation, enabling cross-border transactions is a crucial step for both citizens and businesses,” said Khalid Al Hamadi, CEO and Managing Director of Ooredoo Fintech Maldives. “With Ooredoo Fintech and PayPal now working toward linking PayPal wallets with local m-Faisaa wallets, this is an exciting moment for individuals and enterprises across the country.”

Echoing this sentiment, Minister of Economic Development Mohamed Saeed noted that the initiative represents a pivotal development for the nation. “We look forward to empowering our citizens and businesses to engage directly in cross-border commerce, unlocking new opportunities and creating jobs at home,” he said. “This collaboration could strengthen our economic transformation and ensure the Maldives competes successfully in the global digital economy, while bridging the digital divide and ensuring no community is left behind.”
