A groundbreaking initiative to establish a medical college and hospital in K. Thulusdhoo is poised to revolutionize healthcare and education in the Maldives.
Dr. Faisal Ibrahim, Country Director of Crescent International, announced that mobilization efforts for this ambitious project, following its planning phase, are now underway. Hailed as a vital development for the nation, the project promises significant economic and social benefits, particularly for the Greater Malé Area, Thulusdhoo, and the broader Maldivian population by enhancing access to quality healthcare services.
The medical college in Thulusdhoo will train the next generation of medical professionals, offering educational opportunities to both Maldivian youth and international students. Meanwhile, the accompanying hospital, a state-of-the-art 100-bed super-specialty facility, will leverage advanced technology to deliver world-class medical care.
The project officially broke ground on February 23, 2025, within Thulusdhoo’s designated boundary area. The ceremony was led by Crescent International’s Country MD Shaikh Firoz and Thulusdhoo Council President Aslam Moosa, with foreign investors and senior government officials in attendance, underscoring the project’s international and national significance.
With a target to launch services before 2026, the initiative is backed by an estimated investment of $100 million, covering construction, equipment, and operational costs for its first year.
This project aligns with the Maldivian government’s foreign investment policies, fostering confidence among international stakeholders.
The Thulusdhoo Medical College and Hospital is expected to become a cornerstone of the Maldives’ healthcare infrastructure, blending local needs with global standards.
