Ooredoo Maldives Plc. (“Ooredoo Maldives” or the “Company”) has announced the appointment of Mr. Shadi Qawasmi as its Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, effective from 1st February 2026.
Mr. Qawasmi brings more than ten years of leadership experience spanning the telecommunications sector, strategic management, and brand development. He joined the Ooredoo Group in 2015 and has since held several senior leadership positions at Ooredoo Palestine, including Chief Commercial Officer, Sales Director, and Head of Brand & Communications. In these roles, he played a key part in driving market expansion, overseeing technology deployments, and leading organisational transformation initiatives.
Before joining the Ooredoo Group, Mr. Qawasmi built professional experience in management consulting, business development, and integrated marketing communications. During this period, he advised organisations on growth strategies and digital transformation initiatives. He holds a Master’s degree in Marketing Management from EDHEC Business School, France, and a Bachelor’s degree in Marketing Communications from Brigham Young University, USA.
The Company also expressed its sincere appreciation to its former Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Khalid Hassan M A Al-Hamadi, recognising his leadership and significant contributions to Ooredoo Maldives. During his tenure, the Company launched innovative digital platforms, including the AI-powered care assistant “Evee”, and strengthened partnerships with global organisations such as Mastercard, TikTok, WhatsApp Business, and Viber.
Under Mr. Al-Hamadi’s leadership, Ooredoo Maldives achieved 100% nationwide 4G+ coverage, expanded 5G services to reach 80% of the population, deployed the PEACE submarine cable, established the Tier-3-ready OMDC, and connected the Waldorf Astoria Maldives Ithaafushi Resort through a dedicated cable. His tenure also included achieving a Guinness World Record for the Largest Underwater Panel Discussion, the inauguration of the new Headquarters in K. Hulhumalé, and the implementation of impactful corporate social responsibility initiatives supporting health services and air ambulance operations nationwide.
