Dhiraagu and Special Olympics Maldives Launch Inclusive Sports Programme in G.Dh. Thinadhoo

Six-month regional initiative aims to empower up to 60 athletes with intellectual disabilities

Dhiraagu has announced a strategic partnership with Special Olympics Maldives to launch a regional sports development programme. It aims to empower children and young people with intellectual disabilities through inclusive sport, structured training, and community engagement.

The first programme will be implemented in G.Dh. Thinadhoo and will run for six months. It is targeted to up to 60 athletes and their families. Weekly training sessions will use the Special Olympics Fit5 curriculum, focusing on physical fitness, nutrition, hydration, adaptive sports training, and family wellness engagement. The programme also supports developing local coaches and volunteers for long-term impact.

Ibrahim Rameez, Chair Person of Special Olympics Maldives, stated, "The Dhiraagu Special Sports Festival has played a vital role in promoting inclusion and equality in sports... we believe that our partnership with Dhiraagu through this initiative in G. Dh. Thinadhoo will further strengthen and extend these efforts nationwide."

Dhiraagu has supported inclusion in sports through the Dhiraagu Special Sports Festival held in Male’ for over eight years. The company states it remains committed to supporting initiatives that create social impact and champion inclusion across the Maldives.
