Dhiraagu has marked a major national milestone with the successful completion of high-speed fibre broadband coverage across all inhabited islands in the Maldives — becoming the first and only service provider in the country to achieve 100% nationwide fibre connectivity.
To celebrate this historic accomplishment, the company hosted a special event attended by Minister of Homeland Security and Technology, Mr. Ali Ihusaan, Minister of Tourism and Environment, Mr. Thoriq Ibrahim, alongside senior government officials, city council members, key stakeholders, Dhiraagu Board Directors, and members of the company’s senior management.
With this milestone, Dhiraagu now operates the largest and most extensive high-speed data network in the Maldives, providing fibre broadband access to every household on all inhabited islands. This achievement also places the Maldives among a select group of nations worldwide that have attained complete Fibre-to-the-Home coverage. It marks a crucial step toward a more digitally inclusive society, enabling island communities to participate fully in an increasingly connected world. Furthermore, the milestone supports the government’s broader vision of developing a “smart nation” and enhancing the overall quality of digital services across the archipelago.
Speaking at the event, Chief Guest Mr. Ali Ihusaan commended Dhiraagu’s contribution, stating, “Dhiraagu is the company that has truly connected the nation, becoming the first to deliver high-speed fibre broadband services to every inhabited island across the Maldives. This historic milestone is a source of national pride. On behalf of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu and the citizens of the Maldives, I extend our sincere gratitude to Dhiraagu for this remarkable achievement.”
Dhiraagu’s CEO and Managing Director, Mr. Ismail Rasheed, also reflected on the company’s journey to this achievement, noting that it was the result of years of investment and large-scale infrastructure projects. “We have officially marked the successful completion of providing high-speed fibre broadband service in every inhabited island in the Maldives—a long-planned national milestone made possible through significant investments and a series of major projects,” he said. These initiatives include strengthening international connectivity through submarine cable systems, establishing a north-to-south fibre link across the country, expanding network capacity, and completing a phased rollout to connect every island. “I extend my deepest gratitude to our team, partners, and stakeholders for making this vision a reality,” Mr. Rasheed added.
