In a significant step towards strengthening youth employment and skill development, Sun Siyam Resorts officially launched the Sun Siyam Apprenticeship Program on July 1st, 2025, at Siyam World Maldives. The program is being conducted in collaboration with the Ministry of Higher Education through the SAILS Project (Sustainable and Integrated Labour Services), a World Bank-funded initiative designed to improve employability and vocational training for Maldivian youth.

Thirteen apprentices joined the inaugural six-month training session, which provides hands-on, structured learning experiences across several departments, including diving, culinary arts, finance, engineering, and information technology. Participants will receive mentorship from senior resort professionals, attend specialized workshops, and gain exposure to real-world hospitality operations in alignment with national certification requirements and Sun Siyam’s core service principles.

Vice President of Operations at Sun Siyam Resorts, Abdulla Thamheed, emphasized the broader purpose of the initiative, stating, “This is more than just training—it is a long-term investment in the future of Maldivian tourism. We are proud to collaborate with the Ministry to help build a generation of confident, capable professionals ready to lead our country’s signature industry with passion and pride.”

While the program begins at Siyam World, Sun Siyam Resorts aims to extend this apprenticeship model across all its properties in both the Maldives and Sri Lanka, ensuring a consistent and sustainable framework for workforce development throughout the group. Though separate from the company’s “Sun Siyam Cares” initiative—which focuses on sustainability, ethical practices, and environmental protection—the new apprenticeship program reflects the same dedication to community upliftment and purposeful engagement.

With this launch, Sun Siyam Resorts reinforces its long-standing commitment to supporting Maldivian youth by offering meaningful career paths, practical training, and opportunities for growth within the country’s vital hospitality sector. The initiative marks the beginning of a new chapter in the group’s mission to inspire and empower the next generation of industry leaders.
